2019 BIG WALK BY BINAH
2018 ‘DIFFERENT NOT LESS’ GREEN LOLLIPOP CAMPAIGN
Binah helped Peregrine Holdings celebrate their 20th birthday today. We are honoured to be a part of the celebrations, and grateful to help spread the blessings! The carers and teachers of Sondelani Day Care, Linomtha Day Care, Ethembeni Centre for Disabled and Zamuxolo Day Care attended a workshop at Legacy Centre, presented by Lasya Venter. It was a beautiful occasion and much was learned. Then the donations were celebrated, happiness everywhere! Thank you Louwrens and Ilse from Citadel George for making all of this possible💛 Thank you Marliza van den Berg, Director of Binah, for sharing in the joy!
Thank you Old Mutual and your 51 CLUB for the kind donation towards Binah and Legacy Centre! Your gift will enable us to develop our therapy room into a sensory haven💛

2017 GREEN LOLLIPOP PROJECT A SUCCESS
The message ‘Special needs children are different, not less’ will be prominent and literally on everyone’s lips as the GREEN LOLLIPOP awareness campaign started again recently. This campaign coincides with National Disability Rights Awareness Month which is from 3 November to 3 December. 3 December is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, and is also celebrated as National Disability Rights Awareness Day.
Members of the public will also be able to show their support by purchasing GREEN lollipops at Kloppers George and Legacy Centre. It is the second year that Kloppers George is supporting this initiative and this stalwart in the Garden Route Business sector is really throwing its weight behind the special needs community of George. Funds raised during this campaign will again be utilised to empower the special needs community of George by means of information and training.
INVALUABLE INFORMATION SHARED BY INTERNATIONALLY ACCREDITED SPECIALISTS IN GEORGE
Parents of the Garden Route welcomed Dr Louise Lindenberg and Katherine Megaw with open arms during their recent visit to George. These two internationally acclaimed specialists visited George on 9 & 10 June 2017 to consult with parents of special needs children.
Clinical Dietitian & Founder of Nutripaeds, Katherine Megaw, commented that she was humbled by the positive feedback from the parents who attended the event. According to Katherine people that live in bigger cities are spoiled because they have access to all kinds of informative talks. Spending time with the parents after her talk was a refreshing experience for Kath. Her advice, as Clinical Dietitian with specialist experience in Paediatric and special needs Dietetics, is: Before you consider making huge dietary changes to your child’s diet like ketogenic or casein or fermented diet, implement the following: Eat whole real food; Buy and eat seasonal Fruit and veg; Where you can, buy organic or free-range protein foods; Drink lots of fresh water and avoid fruit juice and fizzy cool drinks; Limit sugar and salt intake; Limit processed foods.
As a specialist who is passionate about working with children with developmental challenges (including Autism, ADHD and behavioural problems) Dr Louise Lindenberg discussed the following: The importance of getting the right diagnosis as this sets the path for the correct therapeutic options. Early intervention is of the utmost importance according to her. Good health includes a good diet, sufficient sleep, a healthy gut and a healthy immune system. Supplements can play a vital role but must be taken with great care. Medication can be important, but the benefits of medication and the ‘price’ of the side effects must be weighed in the choice and duration of taking the medication.

summer@binah is currently underway in the townships of George – We are visiting crèches and clinics addressing parents and care takers on the topic of children with special needs. It is important that the community know what the developmental goals of children are and how to address slow development.
We visited Life where Randal and Andile spend time with children to make a positive impact on their lives.
Binah also visited Sondelani Day Care in Thembalethu and spoiled the kids with play dough, crayons, lollipops and chairs. Nombukelo Mqhele, Siziwe Xhasimba and Sindoswe Cekiso look after 47 little ones with much love and patience.
The GREEN LOLLIPOP awareness campaign, ‘Special needs children are different, not less’ started on 26 September 2016 in conjunction with six schools in George. Funds raised during this campaign were utilised to empower the special needs community of George by means of information and training. The organisers of the campaign from the Non-Profit Organisation Binah and the tutoring centre for special needs children, Legacy Centre, are extremely excited about the positive response and support they received from the George business sector. Kloppers George embraced the project and sold lollipops until January 2017!
